NEW COURSE FOR 2009!

In partnership with Reconstruct, STRADA is offering a course on Substance Misuse and Neglect. The course will take place over two days with a time gap of a week between dates for participants to engage in a practical exercise. An example of some of the learning objectives for Substance Misuse and Neglect are -

• Enhance the awareness of aspects affecting the welfare and safety of children growing up in families where substance misuse is problematic.
• Have an understanding of what constitutes neglect - both emotional and physical.
• Develop practical strategies for assessing neglect and working effectively with families.
• Know when to take decisive action to protect children from the harmful consequences of neglect.
• Increase awareness of the relationship between parental substance misuse and parenting capacity.
• Develop ‘SMART’ care plans to tackle neglect.
• Increase awareness of thresholds across agencies in relation to responding to children affected by parental substance misuse.
