Aim
To increase understanding of the complex relationship between substance misuse and childhood sexual abuse

Learning Outcomes
To understand the effects of childhood sexual abuse
To understand the relationships between substance misuse and sexual abuse
To recognise opportunities to support changes in substance use for survivors
To develop skills and confidence around support pathways
To recognise opportunities to explore impact of child sexual abuse and models of practice.

Programme:
Day 1

Introduction
Defining Sexual AbuseChallenging the myths
Sexual abuse and addictions – The Links
Impact on Survivors
Holding a secret
Facilitating Disclosure
Concerns about facilitating disclosure

Reflective diary
A reflective diary will link the two training days and will encourage participants to reflect on their practice in relation to the course content.

Day 2
Reflective Diary feedback 
Concerned / unconcerned
One survivors experience of trauma
Child Protection challenges 
Case Studies
Reflection
Cycle of Change – what happens when drug use reduces?
Recovery? – What does it look like?
Developing strengths
Workers concerns

This course is offered through STRADA's Tailored Programmes and in partnership with 'Say Women'. It is therefore, not part of the STRADA core contract (Training Events).
